it's more like a pet than a hairdo
In the last 5 years I've had my hair cut by a professional maybe 3 times. It just grows & I wear it in ponytails anyway always so I don't bother.
These 3 times include last night.
I already vowed last year never to have my nails done by a straight male, and now I vow never to have my hair done be a straight male. Even though he's been doing it for 24 years, I just don't think he got it. I'm not trendy, I'm not funky. I am a regular girl with bone-straight, fine and heck, even smooth & sometimes shiny, hair.
We both had a good laugh and I think he understood my idea of what Mom hair is and how I don't want that. And also the Trixie bob hair, I didn't want that, and we agreed it was so boring. But what exactly he had in mind when he asked me to trust him was only that much more hilarious than what we had taken such great pride in mocking.
I even went in with pictures. I am fond of Cat Power's hair, but in reality, the bangs would make me batshit. But the length & texture isn't too much of a departure from my regular hair now. So I thought maybe? At least it was an idea of hair I thought was cute for reference, right?
Then there was a cute, spunky picture of Kiki Dunst that I thought I might try. Short & messy and she has fine hair, too, so maybe with some product & actually combing my hair in the a.m....
So I ask for something in between, but without the bangs.
I should mention part of the reason I don't get haircuts (other than laziness) is I get tremendous anxiety about it. I don't know why and it's stupid, but I do. So I stopped for a beer before to try to calm down some.
And I told the dude this. And maybe he thinks he is funny, but I left there looking a cross between Markie Post on Night Court & Angeler on Who's the Boss?
I'm super glad I spent $70 to continue to wear my glam-kinda-mullet up in a ponytail just like I was doing already.
I'm not ready yet to debut this not-a-haircut in public. I've been in hiding for the whole day already.
buh.
Lesson learned!
